Upon completing the Bilingual Added Authorization Program, teachers will be prepared to develop, implement, and adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to promote student bilingualism, biliteracy, bi-cognition, and biculturalism in bilingual and dual-language settings. Teachers will also have the sociohistorical, sociocultural, sociopolitical, and sociolinguistic knowledge necessary to advocate for equity-centered bilingual education.

This Bilingual Added Authorization Program is ideal for credentialed teachers in Southern California with an interest in adding a bilingual authorization (accepted by the CTC) to their skill set.
To enroll in the Bilingual Added Authorization Program individuals must:
- Pass the CSET III or provide proof of registration for the exam within the first five weeks of the program.
- Hold a valid CA teaching credential or are currently working towards one at another institution.
- Be fluent in Spanish/Mandarin.
- Not be a matriculated student in any other program at Cal State LA.
In addition, when you enroll and submit payment you are agreeing that you meet the following requirements to be part of the Bilingual Added Authorization program:
- You have a valid CA teaching credential or are currently working towards one at another institution
- You are fluent in Spanish
- You are not a matriculated student in any other program at Cal State LA
Please note that priority will be given to credentialed teachers who will be ready to submit their request for bilingual added authorization at the completion of the program.

Bilingual Added Authorization Program: Spanish
The cost does not include CSET examination fees nor Bilingual Authorization CCOE recommendation fees.
Because this is not an academic degree-seeking program, this program does not qualify for federal or state financial aid.

Bilingual Added Authorization Program
Students complete six (6) units of coursework including:
EDCI 5560 - Inquiry into Methods of Teaching Academic Literacy in the Target Language Prerequisite: Target language fluency at the 3000 level and graduate status or consent of instructor. Curriculum, research, and pedagogy in literacy in the target language grades K-12, for speakers of that language or for speakers of English in bilingual programs. Instruction partly in the target language. Fieldwork is required. (3 units)
EDCI 5570 - Research and Pedagogy for the Bilingual Learner: Exploring Cultural Impact Prerequisite: Teaching credential, graduate status, or consent of instructor. Traditions, roles, status, communication patterns of culture as experienced in specified country(ies) and the U.S. Cross-/inter-/intra¬cultural relationships/interactions and cultural contributions in California and the U.S. [i.e. Chicano/Latino; Chinese/Chinese American]. Fieldwork is required. Course conducted bilingually in target language and English. (3 units)
