Determine your Returning Student Category

Returning applicants fall into one of two categories: Returning Students and Returning Transfer Students.

Returning Students

You are a Returning Student if:

  • You have not attended Cal State LA for more than two years.
  • You were academically disqualified.

AND

  • You have not completed coursework at another college or university (including PaGE courses) since leaving Cal State LA.

Readmission is based on:

  • Your academic record at Cal State LA.
  • Your ability to complete your degree within university requirements.

If you’re applying to a new major:

You must meet that major's admission requirements and demonstrate that you can complete the degree within university requirements. Major-specific admission requirements.

Returning Transfer Student

You are a Returning Transfer Student (non-transfer) if:

  • You have not attended Cal State LA for more than two years.
  • You were academically disqualified.

AND 

  • You have completed coursework at another college or university (including PaGE courses) since leaving Cal State LA.

Returning Transfer Students follow the same eligibility rules and deadlines as new transfer applicants. They also receive local preference in admission review.

Readmission is based on:

  • Your academic record at Cal State LA.
  • Your ability to complete your degree within university requirements.

If you’re applying to a new major:

You must meet that major's admission requirements and demonstrate that you can complete the degree within university requirements. Major-specific admission requirements.

Has it been more than 4 consecutive semesters since you last enrolled in classes at Cal State LA?

YOU MAY NOT NEED TO REAPPLY: If you left Cal State LA in good academic standing and you have been absent for less than 2 years, you may not need to reapply. You should submit the Return from Educational Leave form instead. If you have questions, please contact the Registrar’s Office.

Have you attended another college or university since leaving Cal State LA?
Did you take any classes via Cal State LA Open University since leaving Cal State LA?

If it is after this deadline, and you would like to be considered for a late Fall 2027 application, please submit an admission appeal by May 31, 2027. The appeal packet must include your written request for a late application, your desired major, and unofficial transcripts from all other colleges attended.
