About the Cal State LA Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Television, Film and Theatre Program

Focused on the intersection of live and recorded media, with a particular interest in integrating new media into storytelling, this interdisciplinary Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Television, Film and Theatre, with Options in ActingProduction and Writing, is one of five in the country that offers professionally-geared training across the all three mediums of production. Of those five, three are in Los Angeles, Cal State LA’s program is the only one located just 10 minutes from Downtown L.A. and is the most affordable in the Los Angeles area.

The program is committed to supporting students from a diverse background who have a passionate voice and vision that may be underrepresented in the current industry and is expanding to accommodate a maximum of 90 students (30 for each year), making it one of the largest MFA programs in the country. We seek to support these underrepresented voices by providing the tools needed to face the challenges of the industry and change the landscape to be more diverse and inclusive.
