Solutions for Quiz Building and Importing of Questions

Let us help you find the right solution to your quiz building needs. CETL currently supports several options for quiz building and importing questions. Detailed instructions can be found at the bottom of this page as well as information on upcoming Online Quizzes and Exams in Canvas workshop.

Instructor Use of Respondus Software

Instructors can use the Respondus software to create and import quizz with questions directly to Canvas.  This software provides the most comprehensive solution, including meeting the needs of all the scenarios described above. Schedule an appointment with CETL lab staff to review the Respondus software to see if this option is right for you. All PC computers in the CETL Co-Lab space (FA 138) run the Respondus software.

OPTION 2 

Follow the instructional handout instructions below to import questions into Canvas using Respondus.

Note: Mac users can use Respondus using Cal State LA's MyTools service to import questions.

OPTION 1 

Use Add  > New Question inside the Quiz to create complex question types. Settings for these complex question types require careful attention and should be created directly within the Quiz to ensure accuracy.

To get started using Canvas, follow these steps: 

  1. Create a Canvas Quiz Shell (How to Create a Quiz Shell)
  2. Add questions to Quiz using + New Question (Adding Questions to Quiz)

Use the Respondus software or QTI format when needing to import a large pools of questions into a question bank. After importing, finish creating your quiz by adding the question bank to your Quiz shell.
