Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I find more information about the Criminal Justice program and policies?
More information is available on the School of Criminal Justice Advising Information page on WebCT.  The advisement page can be found in the course list under College of Health and Human Services, CRIM 000.

How do I decide on what should be a Directed Elective?
Directed electives must be a 300 or 400 level class.  Criminal Justice electives may be used.  Courses outside the department that relate to Criminal Justice may also be used, but require the approval of the Undergraduate Adviser.  For more information, visit our Advisement Office or go to the Advisement page on WebCT.

Can I count Theme Classes as Directed Electives?
No.  Courses being used for Theme are for Theme only.  Directed electives must be chosen outside of your theme courses.

How do I apply for Graduation?
First, be sure to know the deadline for Applying for Graduation for the current quarter (see the schedule of classes).  Go to Adm. 146 to pick up the appropriate forms.  Then pay for the Grad Check at the Cashier’s office and return the filled out forms to the Criminal Justice office (an advisor’s signature on the paperwork is not required to do this).

Can I use military or ROTC training towards my Criminal Justice degree?
ROTC training can not be used toward the Criminal Justice degree.

If I want to go into Forensics, what should I do?
You need to major in a physical or natural science, i.e. biology, chemistry, biochemistry, etc.  Also, you should take Chem 201, Crim 365, 405, and 409 as they are prerequisites for the Criminalistics program at CSULA.  Any further questions can be directed to Dr. Katherine Roberts in the Criminal Justice Office.

Do I need a minor?
No, a minor is not needed for graduation or for job placement.  If you choose a minor, it must be completed at the same time or before the major or you will be graduated without it on your transcript.  Also, the original minor form needs to be attached to your graduation application.

Does CSULA accept  courses from ITT Tech or University of Phoenix?
If the courses taken are being substituted for lower division courses we may, but they are subject to the same procedures as other unarticulated transfer courses.  We do NOT accept any upper division transfers from either school.
