Educational Tour of the Forensic Science Programs at Hertzberg-Davis Forensic Science Center
The educational tours are designed for prospective students, schools, and educational groups of no more than 30 individuals. The tour focuses on the roles and functions of forensic science in the justice system. Given the nature of the material discussed, students must be at least 14 years old in order to participate in a tour. Requests for tours must be submitted via email at least four weeks prior to the requested date. A finalized roster of attendees will need to be submitted via email one week prior to the date of the tour. Any visitor not included on the finalized roster will not be permitted to participate in the tour. Once your tour is scheduled, you will receive an email confirmation. The tour duration is approximately 2-2.5 hours. Food items, beverages, and open toe shoes are not permitted in the laboratories. Any persons not wearing appropriate footwear will not be allowed on the tour.
The educational tours are offered on the second and fourth Friday of each month (10:00 – 12:30pm) during the academic semester. Please note that tours are not given over the summer (June to Aug.). The tours include a presentation that describes the educational background and functions of a forensic scientist, casework examples, and demonstrations. We also provide a tour of our teaching and research laboratories. We are not authorized to provide tours of the Los Angeles Police Department or Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department operational laboratories. You must contact these agencies directly for such tours.
