Our Research
Our research interests are at the chemistry-biology interface. We aim to understand 1) protein-ligand interaction at solid-liquid interface and in solution and 2) the relationships between protein structure, dynamics, and function upon the ligand binding by biological, chemical, biophysical, and structural methods. We are currently working on:
- Molecular recognition of non-ice like molecules, such as nucleosides and carbohydrates, by antifreeze proteins; crystal growth control of these molecules by antifreeze proteins for potential applications in pharmaceutical, food, sugar, and materials industries.
- Identification of highly efficient enhancers of antifreeze proteins and addressing fundamental questions in enhancement mechanisms for potential biomedical applications of antifreeze proteins and enhancers.
- Investigating the interactions between toxic metal ions and zinc finger proteins for a better understanding of metal (ion) carcinogenesis.
