This grant awarded by USDA NIFA supports activities designed to educate, mentor, and train students in food production at the urban food gardens and surrounding communities near California State University, Los Angeles, while examining the science, technology, and history behind the effective natural resource management in these locales. Urban agriculture can generate a measure of food security to the city, increase awareness of health and nutrition, and creates community bonds through a shared commitment to the preservation of natural resources. Our project is committed to that effort, in several areas of teaching, research, and outreach. To learn about Cal State LA's Certification status read here.
