The M.A. in TESOL admits students for both Spring and Fall semesters. Applicants submit one application through Cal State Apply and upload the program’s required materials within the application. A separate departmental application is not required.

Admission Requirements
Applicants must meet both the University’s graduate admission requirements and the M.A. in TESOL program requirements. Applicants should be prepared to document the following:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- A minimum 2.75 grade point average in the last 60 semester units or 90 quarter units attempted.
- English language proficiency, when required by Cal State LA. The TESOL program has program-specific minimum scores for some approved examinations.
Application Materials
Applicants should have the following materials ready when completing the Cal State Apply application:
- Two letters of recommendation from university faculty or professional references.
- Unofficial transcripts from the institution that awarded the bachelor’s degree and from any institution attended afterward. Current and former Cal State LA students should follow the instructions within Cal State Apply.
- A two- to three-page statement of purpose describing academic preparation, professional experience, career goals, and reasons for pursuing the M.A. in TESOL.
