National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA)

The California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA) Communication Disorders Department maintains a very active local chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA). This group is open to any student interested in communication disorders or related fields (e.g., special education, social work, counseling).

The purpose of our local NSSLHA chapter is to promote professional growth, to discuss current events and career possibilities pertaining to the field of Communication Disorders or related areas, to promote greater fellowship among all students pursuing careers in speech-language pathology and audiology, and to involve students in community events and activities related to the discipline.

The local NSSLHA chapter maintains a website, publishes a bi-monthly newsletter, hosts monthly meetings and participates in community activities. The Chapter officers are role models and are available to assist undergraduates with everything from classwork to applying to graduate school.

Chapter Officer elections are held the end of each Fall term. Positions available are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Newsletter Editor, and Undergraduate Representative. All positions are held by graduate students, with the exception of the Undergraduate Representative. Officers commit to planning and participating in monthly meetings, organizing events, and representing the department and local chapter in a professional manner at all times.
