24-Unit Requirement for Non-English B.A. Students Seeking an M.A. in English

Students who do not have a B.A. in English must meet the following 24 semester unit requirement prior to beginning work on the M.A. program. These courses can be taken at Cal State LA. Credit for equivalent coursework taken elsewhere may be granted by the graduate adviser following a review of transcripts.

24-Unit Requirement

Literary Criticism (3) - One course chosen from the following: ENGL 3200, 4200, or equivalent.

British Literature (6) - Two courses chosen from the following: ENGL 3400, or any ENGL course with catalog number beginning 44xx.

American Literature (6) - Two courses chosen from the following:: ENGL 3600, or any ENGL course with catalog number beginning 46xx.

World Literature (3) - One courses chosen from the following: Any ENGL course with catalog number beginning 43xx or 47xx.

Electives (6) - Two upper division ENGL courses.

Courses used to satisfy the 24-unit qualifying program requirement must be approved by a graduate adviser. These courses are prerequisite courses and may not be included on the master's degree program. Students must also maintain a 3.20 grade point average in these prerequisites.
