- Development of inorganic and organometallic photosensitizers
- Photochemistry and photophysics of photosensitizers attached to nanomaterials.
- Synthesis, characterization, and reactivity of peroxidic species and reactive intermediates.
- Mechanistic study of ligand oxidation (especially thiolate ligands) and oxidation of selected biomolecules.
- Exploration of the inorganic and organometallic chemistry of singlet oxygen.
- Climatology, especially long-term cycles in Southern California.
