FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for Prospective Students

1. What is your lab's research focused on?
Please visit the Current Projects page on the lab website to read about current research projects.

2. What types of projects can students work on in the lab?
There is currently a lot of data that is available to students to work with for independent research projects! There is no active data collection currently, so students will utilize existing survey data or focus group data to carve out a project that is of interest to them. Visit the Current Projects page to read about the type of data that has been collected in the lab and that students may be able to use for their theses or independent research projects. There may be opportunities in the future for students to contribute to data collection, when a new study is being developed; however this is not guaranteed.

3. What is your mentorship style?
I take a developmental and scaffolded approach to mentorship, where I meet students where they are at based on their research experience and skill level. For example, I provide more guidance when I first start working with students, as they adjust to the lab and develop their research skills. As students become more advanced and need less support, I step back to encourage them to work more independently and build confidence and autonomy in their skills. Additionally, I take a collaborative approach and tailor mentorship to meet students' individual needs and preferences. When a student first joins the lab, I meet with them to discuss their past experiences, mentorship preferences, career goals, and research goals. We work together to create an individualized plan for their duration of the lab, and we meet periodically to check in about how things are going and adjust as needed.
