New Graduate Student Orientation

Students listening to orientation speakers in Rosser Hall lecture hall

Welcome to your graduate and post-baccalaureate studies at Cal State LA!

The Office of Graduate Studies and Graduate Resource Center are pleased to welcome you to our community of scholars and professionals. Cal State LA is a state comprehensive university with an urban mission of engagement, service, and the public good, and we aim to support you in your journey to advance this mission. Each semester, we offer a New Graduate Student Orientation Session to guide you in the right direction as you embark on your graduate studies.

By participating in our orientation session, you will:

  • Become acquainted with the resources and funding opportunities provided by the Office of Graduate Studies and Graduate Resource Center
  • Learn about the offices and resource centers in the Division of Student Life (e.g., The Dreamer’s Resource Center, Student Health Center, etc.)
  • Learn about strategies for planning and completing your degree in a timely manner

All incoming graduate students should plan to attend our orientation, even if your program or department offers its own orientation. Our orientation focuses on graduate student responsibilities and success strategies for graduate study. We also present information on resources that are available to graduate students, including funding opportunities, professional development opportunities, and our other campus partners. These topics may not be covered in your program or department orientations.
