CALL FOR PANEL DISCUSSIONS

Included in this year’s Eagle-Con will be panel discussions related to our theme.  We invite you to submit a proposal for inclusion. Proposal requirements:
  • Your name, title, and contact information
  • Other panel members (between 3 and 6 total)
  • Panel theme
  • Abstract
  • Panel-type: lecture; open discussion; research presentation
  • Equipment needs (computer; projector; sound; etc.)

CALL FOR COSPLAY MASQUERADE AND KIDS COSPLAY MASQUERADE

 
Ever wanted an excuse to dress up as your favorite superhero? Eagle-Con is excited to announce the return of our Cosplay Masquerade Contest. Design your costume and dress as characters from comic books, fantasy, speculative, and science fiction media for a chance to win awards from entertainment industry professionals! And this year, we have a competition for the kids too!
 
Eagle-Con Cosplay Masquerade Contest
  • Open to currently enrolled Cal State LA students, alumni and families
  • KIDS COSPLAY MASQUERADE is open to children 10 years old and younger
  • Contestants may enter as individuals or as a group
  • Contest will be held on Saturday, March 10 in the Golden Eagle Ballroom
  • The Masquerade is FREE to enter and to watch for Eagle-Con participants!

FLASH SCIENCE FICTION AND FANTASY COMPETITION

 
Eagle-Con is now accepting original, unpublished student works of short or “flash” science fiction and/or fantasy. Pieces must be between 750 and 800 words on any topic related to the genre of science fiction.
 
The deadline for entries is February 15th, 2018. A faculty committee will choose entries to be read by the author at Eagle-Con 2018 on Saturday, March 10th. Email submissions to [email protected] with the subject “Student Flash Fiction Competition.”
 
No multiple submissions, please.  Do not submit previously published work. Please notify organizers immediately if a piece is accepted elsewhere.

STUDENT MEDIA FESTIVAL

 
Attention student media makers and science fiction Fans! Eagle-Con is seeking entries for its first public exhibition of student media to be held this coming Spring.

We are looking for short films, videos, animations and interactive works concerned with the themes, conflicts and images of Science Fiction and fantasy broadly understood.  Submissions can deal with topics including but not limited to:

- robots, androids, nanobots, the singularity, cybernetics, virtual reality, the post-human
- utopias, dystopias, ecological collapse, terraforming, post-scarcity, post-apocalypse 
- mutants, ESP, telepathy, telekinesis
- monsters, creatures, cryptozoology
- time travel, multiple dimensions, alternative histories 
- aliens, invasions, abductions, space travel 
- special effects, sound effects, uncanny affects
- the limits (or beyond the limits) of human knowledge, comprehension, or understanding

Submitted works will be reviewed and assessed by a select conference committee.  Those chosen by the committee will then be featured in the conference’s documentation and will be screened on March 9th and 10th at the University Student Union during Eagle-Con.  At this screening an invited experts panel will convene and award a “best in show” honor to the most exemplary entries.  

Submit a 250-word description of your media project that explains its medium and major themes by January 30th to [email protected] with the subject “Eagle-Con 2018 Student Media Festival.” (Submissions now closed)
 
Your media project must be completed and submitted by Wednesday, February 28th (and details about submitting your media project will be sent after your abstract has been reviewed).
