Healthy Food Incentive Programs
At each market, we'll offer two programs that can support students experiencing food insecurity. Please visit the appropriate information booth listed below to access each opportunity.
Students receiving CalFresh benefits can access this program by visiting the East LA Certified Farmer's Market information booth. Student can swipe their EBT card to receive tokens to spend on any eligible food items at the market. Through Market Match, if students spend $20 they can get up to $20 matched in vouchers.
This program is for low-income students that are otherwise not eligible for CalFresh but are experiencing food insecurity. Students can sign up or check-in at the CalFresh information booth and receive $10 worth in vouchers to purchase produce and grocery items at the market.
This program is available while supplies last.
Voucher funds must be used the day they are received and cannot be exchanged for cash. Eligible students can receive vouchers weekly, once a week at the market if they meet the following requirements:
- Must be currently enrolled (both undergraduate and graduate)
- Must not have an on-campus meal plan that gives you access to more than 11+ meals weekly (will be verified for subsequent weeks)
- Must submit a Pre-screen form to verify ineligibility for CalFresh.
- Must check-in at our information booth each week they wish to receive vouchers. Students will not be able to pick up vouchers for other students.
Students making purchases with CalFresh/EBT and accessing the Golden Eagle Fresh program can receive a food ticket to access a meal at the Vida Pura food truck only on the following dates:
- February 27
- March 12
- March 26
- April 9

While supplies last, all other currently enrolled students can also receive a free meal by checking in for the event through Presence.
