Parking Regulations

It is the responsibility of all drivers to know and understand the University parking rules and regulations. Parking regulations are enforced 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays. Please obey all posted signs and/or curb markings.

  • Vehicles must obey all posted signage. 
  • A valid Cal State LA parking permit must be displayed and visible on the rear-view mirror of the vehicle or placed face up on the driver’s side dash at all times.
  • Only Faculty and Staff Permits from other CSU campuses will be honored.
  • Expired permits and/or daily parking permits must be removed before displaying a current permit. (Note: Expiration dates are printed on each permit and it must be visible.)
  • Disabled parking requires a current Cal State LA parking permit and a valid DMV disabled placard at all times.
  • Intersession permits must be purchased in person.
  • Daily parking permits are available for purchase through dispensing machines located in student lots and PayByPhone.
  • Current permits must be displayed on the FIRST day of each term.
  • Lost permits WILL NOT be replaced.
  • Purchase of a parking permit does NOT guarantee a parking space at any given time on campus.
  • CSULA facilities are not intended for use as storage.  The University reserves the right to remove and impound abandoned vehicles at owner’s expense.
  • The University hereby declares itself not responsible for and assumes no liability arising from, fire, theft, vehicles left for multiple days, damage to or loss of the vehicle or any items left therein.
  • No bailment for the University is created with purchase of a permit to park. 
  • Parking Permits are not transferable. 
  • Parking Permits are considered property of the University and can be revoked for misuse.
  • For parking refunds, permit must be returned.  Students return permits to the Transporation Service Center, Faculty/Staff to Cashiers Window 7.
  • Owners of convertible or open vehicles (i.e., Jeeps) are responsible for securing their parking permit. If stolen due to open access, the permit will NOT be replaced.
  • If you forget your valid parking permit, you may purchase a daily permit at any of the parking permit dispenser machines conveniently located in Lots 1, 2, 5, and 7, Parking Structure A (all levels), Parking Structure B (C-Level) and Parking Structure C (Yellow Level).
  • Daily permits must be displayed face-up on the driver's side dash with the valid date/time shown.
  • Failure to display your permit correctly may be plausible cause for citation.
  • Vehicles parked in unauthorized parking areas/zones are subject to citation and/or tow-away.
  • Overnight parking of vehicles on University property is prohibited, with exception of University Housing Residents parked in the designated Resident areas while  displaying a Residential Parking permit or  with permission from the University Police.  Vehicles in violation of this section may be cited and/or towed at owner’s expense.
  • Overnight parking for eligible commuters is allowed with prior approval from The Transportation Service Center, (323) 343-6117.
  • Vehicles must park "Head-in" in Parking Structure C and Lot 10.
  • Per Adm Procedure 402,7.3.4. the University may remove an abandoned vehicle, any vehicle parked in such a way as to constitute a traffic hazard, and vehicles illegally parked.  Vehicles with five (5) or more unpaid parking citations are subject to impound (towing) under California Vehicle Code sections 22651.3(b) and 22651.7.  The owner will be responsible for costs involved in removing and storing of such vehicles.

Housing Residents

  • Housing Residents require a Resident Permit. 
  • Housing Resident Parking Permits are only valid for parking in Lots 7, 7a, 5, and Cal State LA permitted spaces along Hellman only.  Resident Permit is not valid in student lots.
  • Verification of housing residency must be obtained prior to purchasing a Resident Permit. 
  • First time freshmen are prohibited from purchasing a Resident Permit.
  • Overnight parking for resident guests is allowed only outside the residential parking area in Lot 7 with a valid parking permit.
