Hanna Schultheis-Gerry First Year
Dramatic Writing Option

What medium do you prefer to work in? Theater so far, but that's where most of my experience is. I'm excited to do more in the other mediums.

Favorite TV show? How I Met Your Mother, Gilmore Girls, Ally McBeal

Favorite film/documentary? 500 Days of Summer, When Harry Met Sally

Favorite play? Mauritius by Theresa Rebeck, Gruesome Playground Injuries by Rajiv Joseph

Why did you choose Cal State L.A.'s MFA program in Television, Film and Theatre? The location and the combination of receiving an MFA in writing for all three art forms. I want to be flexible, marketable and endlessly creative.

What were you doing before you enrolled in the program? Before Cal State L.A., I was living back home in the San Francisco Bay Area, working as a barista, an assistant director for a children's theatre company and as an actor.

Do you have film/TV industry experience or are you currently working in the industry? I've done a few student films and was on a couple of episodes of Skinnamarink TV in Canada as a kid.

What are you passionate about? Theatre, stories, life, love, truth, words, feelings.

What themes are important to you in your work? Love, truth, honesty, feminism, self-actualization, growth, the journey.

What projects/people in the film industry inspire you? I love all of the big female producer/actor/writers right now: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling, Lena Dunham. I aspire to be like them.

What's the most fascinating thing you have learned in the MFA program recently? Anything is possible!

What are your plans for after graduation? I hope to become a staff writer for a hot TV show, and continue to be an actor and a playwright. And have a pet hedgehog.
