| Woodrow Wilson Humanities Fellow Los Angeles, CA--The College of Arts and Letters at California State University, Los Angeles announces South Pasadena resident Jane Ann Dini as the University's Woodrow Wilson Postdoctoral Fellow in the Humanities, starting September 2000 for a two-year term. Dini, a recent graduate of UC Santa Barbara, completed her doctoral dissertation in Art History, entitled "Public Bodies: Form and Identity in the Work of John Singer Sargent." Dini spent a year as the National Endowment for the Arts Fellow at the Harvard University Arts Museums, and then was offered a one-year appointment as a visiting lecturer at UC Santa Cruz. Upon the conclusion of her teaching duties, Dini was also awarded a one-year Smithsonian Predoctoral Fellowship at the National Museum of American Art. In her most recent position as visiting lecturer at UC Santa Barbara, she taught a broad range of courses in the visual arts. In the classes, she focused on interdisciplinary approaches and encouraged students to conduct research outside the traditional boundaries of art. Through the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation's postdoctoral fellowship program, Dini will gain access to teaching experience and mentoring by current teaching faculty at Cal State L.A. The inaugural program aims to improve each participant's ability to obtain tenure-track teaching positions at universities and colleges. Over the two years of support this program provides, Dini will have the opportunity to develop her graduate research into publishable books and articles, a crucial prerequisite for prospective university faculty. To assist in reaching the research objectives, Cal State L.A. has developed partnerships with such area research institutions as the Huntington Library and the Getty Research Institute. "The fellowship program will provide Dini the opportunity to get to know our University as we further develop the range and depth of our offerings in the humanities disciplines," said Carl Selkin, Dean of the College of Arts and Letters at Cal State L.A. The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, an independent, nonprofit organization, attempts to maximize human potential through education. The Foundation seeks to sponsor excellence in education and thus develop a new generation of leaders. For more information, call the Cal State L.A. College of Arts and Letters at (323) 343-4001.
