CAL STATE L.A. PRESENTS A FACULTY WORKSHOP ON
WEBFOLIO FOR STUDENT OUTCOMES ASSESSMENT

Los Angeles, CA -- California State University, Los Angeles faculty who have implemented webfolios in their classes under a CSU system grant to expand the Cal State L.A. webfolio project will train other CSU faculty at Cal State L.A.'s Spring Faculty Workshop on Friday, May 14, 1999. Faculty from all 23 CSU campuses are invited to attend the sessions from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in King Hall C1066.

Webfolios are portfolios on the World Wide Web. According to associate professor of Education Lori Kim, the purpose of webfolios is to assess student learning by integrating technology with an authentic student learning assessment method, that is, portfolios. "Incorporating technology into the curriculum to create webfolios not only provides students and faculty with access to the most current resources available through the Web, it also fosters collaborative efforts in multiple learning relationships among students, faculty, and practitioners as they exchange feedback, and share ideas and resources," said Kim who is coordinating the workshop.

Faculty trainers will present the highlights of their webfolios, followed by question and answer session and a personal browsing session. After lunch, participants will learn how to start webfolios for their classes. The afternoon workshop will be divided according to the technology background of the participants as well as whether they are familiar with Macintosh computers or PCs.

In addition to faculty members, directors of CSU centers for effective teaching and academic affairs vice presidents are also encouraged to attend the workshop. For more information or registration information, visit www.calstatela.edu/academic/webfolio/or contact Lori Kim at [email protected].
