Washington Monthly’s 2013 College Guide ranks
Cal State L.A. among top master’s universities

Los Angeles, CA – California State University, Los Angeles is listed among the nation’s top 20 master’s universities in the recent Washington Monthly’s 2013 College Guide, based on social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and Ph.D.s), and service (encouraging students to give something back to their country).

The guide specifically addresses whether colleges are educating low-income students, improving the quality of their teaching, or trying to become more productive. The rankings also factor in an analysis of which schools combine higher than expected graduation rates with affordable prices.

Impressively, Cal State L.A. is ranked #6 nationally in the category of social mobility, which is tied in part to how a university exceeds a predicted graduation rate based on the socioeconomic status of the student population. The University is also among the top 20 percent in the research category and the top 25 percent in the service category.
