LUCKMAN THEATRE PRESENTS ODC SAN FRANCISCO'S THE VELVETEEN RABBIT ON MARCH 22 AT 11 A.M. AND 2 P.M.
Local Children Appear in the Production
ODC San Francisco performs the perennial favorite, The Velveteen Rabbit, a dance/theater performance based on the classic English children's tale by Margery Williams, at Cal State L.A.'s Luckman Theatre on Saturday, March 22 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The Velveteen Rabbit is part of the 1996-97 Luckman Family Series and tickets are an outstanding value at $7 per performance. Call TicketMaster at (213) 365-3500/(714) 740-7878 or the Luckman box office at (323) 343-6600.
The Velveteen Rabbit is the story of a stuffed rabbit that magically comes to life through the love of a little boy. Nana, who stands 12 feet tall in this presentation, oversees the toys who share the nursery: a floppy velveteen rabbit, toy soldiers, a crocodile, rag dolls and, in the garden, a pack of real rabbits.
ODC San Francisco's adaptation includes dancing, narration and music in this enduring tale about love, loyalty and growing old.
Local children from the Saturday Conservatory of Dance at Cal State L.A., funded in part by the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance, the will appear in The Velveteen Rabbit. They include Victoria and Jasmine Smith of Los Angeles, Nastya and Vova Levy-Heath of Burbank, Kristina Martinez of North Hollywood, Amy Porter of Studio City, Rebecca Gonzalez of Azusa, Michelle Nidever of Temple City and Alexis Vaughn of Van Nuys.
This year's program is supported in part with funds from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and the California Arts Council, a state agency.
The Luckman Family Series of performances will close with the Anderson Quartet on Saturday, May 3 at 2 p.m.
Luckman Theatre, part of the Harriet & Charles Luckman Fine Arts Complex, is located on the campus of Cal State L.A. at the Eastern Avenue exit of the San Bernardino (I-10) freeway near the interchange of the I-10 and I-710 (Long Beach) freeways.
