Middle schools to match up in Science Bowl at Cal State L.A. Saturday
70 students from 7 schools in ‘fast-paced verbal forum’
sponsored by Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers

For some tough, but fair, questions, consider covering the Regional Middle School Science Bowl sponsored by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, to be held Saturday, Feb. 6, at Cal State L.A. About 70 students will compete in a fast-paced verbal forum to solve problems from a broad range of science and math realms. The contestants, in teams of five, will be from the following middle schools in and near Los Angeles: Florence Nightingale, Nimitz, El Sereno, Roosevelt, LACES (Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies), Mark Reed, and Luther Burbank.
Schedule: Saturday’s event begins at 9 a.m. with a welcoming in King Hall Lecture Hall 1. Matches follow throughout the day in the Engineering & Technology Building. The final round will be at King Hall around 4 to 6 p.m.
Regional competitions are held across the United States; regional winners advance to the National Science Bowl in Washington D.C., which is sponsored by the Department of Energy.
