| Cal State L.A.'s Business School The rankings place the business school at Cal State L.A. alongside university business schools that include American University (DC), James Madison University (VA), Loyola University Chicago, SUNY Albany, University of Houston, University of Illinois Chicago, and Villanova University (PA). U.S. News says its ranking of undergraduate business schools, last published in 1996, is "back by popular demand." The magazine announced, "So many families have called to inquire about great programs that we decided it was time for an update." In an article about ranking, U.S. News said it ranks for quality and best value. The criteria includes academic reputation, student selectivity, faculty resources, retention rate, financial resources, alumni giving, and graduate rate performance. U.S. News says its overall ranking system rests on two pillars: quantitative measures that education experts have proposed as reliable indicators of academic quality, and impartial views of what matters in education. The method used to rank colleges and universities consists of several factors that include categorization by mission and region, and data about up to 16 indicators of academic excellence. Each factor is assigned a weight that reflects U.S. News' judgment about how much each measure matters. Finally, the colleges in each category are ranked against their peers, based on their composite weighted score. Cal State L.A.'s business school Dean G. Timothy Haight said he was delighted with the ranking. "The fact that our globally focused and technology based program ranks among the best in the United States is testament to the dedication of our faculty and staff, our innovative curriculum, and the drive of our students to make a difference in business," said Haight. The School of Business and Economics enrolls 2900 undergraduate students and 400 graduate students and offers undergraduate degrees in business administration, computer information systems, and economics as well as several minors and certificate programs. The school offers graduate programs in accountancy, business administration, information systems, economics, and health care management in addition to the MBA.
