More: Unrecognized by many, Tijuana has recently come into its own as a vibrant cultural center. Influenced perhaps just as much by its economic synthesis with Southern California (from the effects of NAFTA) as by the traditions that hail from Mexico City, this border town has grown into a center of multifarious hybridizations. Perhaps because of this and certainly due to its uniqueness, this burgeoning metropolis has also become the city of choice and point of destination for many young and mid-career artists. This exhibition represents ten formally untrained artists living and working in Tijuana whose paintings represent a variety of styles that point to the chaotic growth and eclectic nature of the border region, but also aspects of its distinctive culture. Related Events: The PinturaFresca exhibition is accompanied by several events related to the exhibition theme: Opening Reception: Friday, October 26, 2001, 7-10 p.m. Featuring live music by special guest dj's from Nortec Collective, including Bostich, Fussible, Terrestre and more.
