Cal State L.A. Fine Arts Gallery
Presents the
Lantern of the East Exhibition

What:
The Fine Arts Gallery at California State University, Los Angeles presents Lantern of the East, part of the 10th International Art Festival in Los Angeles featuring 126 art works from 28 countries. Lantern of the East is an art movement initiated 10 years ago by four Asian artists, Lee Kye Song, Hideo Sakata, P. Khemraj and Yoko Kamijyo, who were concerned about Western rationalism and commercialization in art and education as well as philosophy and religion during the late 20th century. Other art works may be viewed at the Angels Gate Cultural Center Gallery, San Pedro, CA (Sept. 28-Oct.27), or the George J. Doizaki Gallery at the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center, Los Angeles, CA (Oct. 5-Oct.27).

When:
October 4 – October 30, 2002.
Gallery Hours: Mon. - Thu. and Sat., 12 noon-5 p.m.
Artists’ reception: Friday, October 4, 6-9 p.m.

Where:
Cal State L.A. Fine Arts Gallery, Fine Arts Building. The University is located at the Eastern Avenue exit, San Bernardino (I-10) Fwy., at the interchange of 10 and 710 Fwys. Public permit dispenser parking available in Lot C, Lot G, or the upper level of North Parking Structure II.

The 10th International Art Festival advocates reevaluating a Western-led contemporary art scene and introducing an emphasis of the spiritual world. The objectives of this festival are “to facilitate mutual understanding and cooperation among people from different cultural backgrounds through the universal language of art, to promote art as a means to discover oneself and restore a sense of humanity, and to nurture the development of future young artists.”
