Cal State L.A.’s Graduate Thesis Exhibit features ‘Tangible Design’
Exhibit to run from Nov. 13 through 27
Los Angeles, CA -- From Nov. 13 through 27, the Fine Arts Gallery at Cal State L.A. will display the works of CSULA student Hazar Nevzat Bayindir as his graduate thesis. This Graduate Thesis Exhibition is the first in a series of Master of Fine Arts Exhibitions at CSULA for the 2010-11 academic year.
With opening reception set for Saturday, Nov. 13, from 6 – 9 p.m., Bayindir’s Tangible Design is described as “comprised of a suite of posters, an installation, a short movie, and several ‘process photographs’ all made with the least possible intervention of computer manipulation.”
The posters and the video are created by hand in three-dimensional space and then documented; his installation gives a window into viewing his design process.
According to Gallery Director Karin Lanzoni, “Within each of these works, Bayindir takes a very common idea and contextualizes it by employing the material itself (food, water, clothing) to point to layered and/or perverse cultural associations.”
She noted: “The strong and matter-of-fact visual presentations and the ‘re-use’ of materials as typography provoke the spectator into questioning the common use and meaning of these materials and the politics of both.”
