Bonnie Bernard to Speak on Generation X at Cal State L.A.

Cal State L.A. will present "Generation Xers: High Risk or High Resiliency?", a lecture about the new paradigm for assessing the developmental needs of children and youth today. The speaker will be Bonnie Bernard, MSW, a nationally-known figure in the field of prevention theory, policy and practice.

Cal State L.A. University Club. The University is located at the Eastern Avenue exit, San Bernardino (I-10) Freeway, at the interchange of the 10 and 710 Freeways.
Speaker:
Bonnie Bernard is currently serving as a consultant with Resiliency Associates in Berkeley and is also the research editor for the journal, Resiliency in Action. She is an advocate for deep-level restructuring and "reculturating" of family, school and community systems to facilitate the healthy development of children and youth. Bernard's research over the last 15 years documents both positive learning and behavioral outcomes when learning environment meet the developmental needs for belonging, respect, power and meaning among young people. During her career, she has also helped to design statewide and national prevention policy, has written a nationally-acclaimed column in Prevention Forum, and is particularly known for her ability to integrate research across disciplines and to bridge policy with actual practice. Most recently, she has been recognized for introducing and conceptualizing Resilience Theory and its application.
