| Cal State L.A. Faculty Member is Cinematographer Los Angeles, CA  The Cal State L.A. community has another reason to watch the awarding of the Oscars on Sunday, March 24. Cal State L.A.Âs assistant professor of broadcasting Blake Jackson was the cinematographer on The AccountantÂa 38-minute film recently nominated for an Academy Award in the category of ÂShort Film  Live Action. Jackson also assisted with production management and pre-production producing on the film. The Accountant, one of five films nominated in its category, has been picking up awards at festivals across the country and has been honored at the Slamdance, Fayetteville, Atlanta, Austin and Virginia festivals as well as the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival. According to Alan Bloom, associate chair of the UniversityÂs Communication Studies department, Âthose who have seen this award-winning film are not surprised by this honor. JacksonÂs work on The Accountant is beautiful and flawless. Bloom calls the work Âa terrific film and attributes its ability to compete in todayÂs very tough short film environment to the Âgorgeous look of its cinematography. This is JacksonÂs second association with an Oscar-nominated short film. He was art director on the 1986 Short Documentary nominee, The Courage To Care.
