 | Cesar Caballero Named California State University, Los Angeles announces the appointment of Cesar Caballero (Los Angeles resident) to the position of associate university librarian, effective April 1, 2003. Caballero will have major administrative assignments that include responsibility for coordinating major aspects of internal operations in a collaborative environment and overseeing the activities of the Library faculty. Additionally, he will participate in strategic planning, development activities, program evaluation and cooperative library programs, and will be actively involved in all aspects of the Library administration. Caballero received his M.L.S. from University of Texas at Austin in 1974, B.B.A. from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1972, and is pursuing his doctorate at Texas Tech University. He was associate university librarian for public services for the University of Texas El Paso Library from 1995 to the present and acting university librarian from 1994 to 1995. Prior to that, he served as public services coordinator for El Paso Community College and as head of the Department of Special Collections at the University of Texas, El Paso from 1979 to 1993. Caballero has been recognized for significant international, national and regional professional contributions including service as chair of the steering committee for the International Network for Education Technology (I-Net) from 1999 to 2002; member of the executive board of the American Libraries Association from 1992 to 1996; and chair of the Quincentenary Coordinating Committee for the University of Texas at El Paso in 1992. He has been recognized for his dedication and leadership in community projects to improve library instruction programs, and for his expertise in the areas of planning and marketing strategies for libraries, grant writing for library programs, and coauthorship of Hispanic librarianship programs and distance learning initiatives.
