Dr. Seuss' Birthday,
Tuesday, March 2 Los Angeles, CA -- February 26, 1999 -- This year on Dr. Seuss' birthday, Tuesday, March 2, 1999, the America Reads project at California State University, Los Angeles will feature special presentations by teams of student readers assigned to their respective schools. In addition, Cal State L.A. students, staff and faculty will be reading in classrooms at City Terrace Elementary School as part of Read Across America, a national campaign to encourage children to read. "We are proud to be part of this national effort to expand children's understanding of the world through reading," says Jorge Uranga, EPIC director and America Reads project director at Cal State L.A.

Readings include:
10:15 a.m. - Cal State L.A. student Epi Serrato will share his insect collection during a reading to Ms. Valencia's kindergarten class in room 18.
11:30 a.m. - Cal State L.A. administrator Rosie McNutt will read from her favorite book, The Giving Tree, to Ms. Mitchell's first and second grade class in room 6.
12:30 p.m. - Cal State L.A. dean of Arts and Letter and professor of English Carl Selkin will read poems to third graders in room 25, and assistant vice president for Student Affairs David Godoy will present a special reading to Mr. Saldano's fourth and fifth grade class in room 11.
TBA - A group of Cal State L.A. students will read a series of books, followed with a soccer and salsa demonstration. INFO:
