| Cal State L.A. Los Angeles, CA -- According to Dean Calvo, executive director of University Auxiliary Services (UAS) at California State University, Los Angeles, the wait is almost over. After more than two years in construction, The Golden EagleÂa building located at the very heart of California State University, Los Angeles, housing the campus new international food court, University Club restaurant, meeting, banquet and event spaces, a showcase bookstore unique to the community, and various University officesÂwill celebrate its grand opening on Tuesday, June 3, 2003. ÂWe see The Golden Eagle as the keystone building in a new campus hub, says Calvo. ÂWith the John F. Kennedy Memorial Library and the University-Student Union with a new, soon-to-be added fitness center, this combination of buildings establishes an essential focal point for student, faculty, staff and alumni interaction. This is what our commuter campus has been waiting for. The Golden Eagle includes more than 30,000 square feet of meeting and event space, the 20,000 square foot two-story University Bookstore that will be operated by Barnes and Noble, and a 400-seat food court that will offer a varied selection of national and regional brands. ÂThe Golden EagleÂs new University Club restaurant, which will be open to the public, will be the perfect spot for casual sit-down dining and entertaining campus guests, says Calvo. ÂAdditionally, The Golden Eagle has intimate rooms for small group events, a state-of-the-art boardroom and several outside patios perfectly suited for receptions. ÂWe canÂt wait to get people in the building! says Calvo. ÂThe architecture is breathtakingÂThe Golden Eagle has recently won a design awardÂand the building carries the striking contemporary look of the Luckman Fine Arts Complex right into the center of campus. ÂThis is a growing University, and the previous facility was designed to meet student needs of the 1950s, explains Calvo. Our new facility expands the footprint upwardÂwe now have nearly three times the space in a beautiful, comfortable setting. To operate the hospitality elements of the project, University Auxiliary Services has formed Golden Eagle Hospitality, a full-service catering and event services group. ÂIÂm anticipating that Golden Eagle Hospitality will be one of the best catering and event services operations in Los Angeles, says Calvo. ÂWe have attracted a very talented group of professionals with substantial hospitality experience. Jeff Miller has joined UAS to become director of Golden Eagle Hospitality. Miller previously managed the UCLA conference center in Lake Arrowhead and the conference program at San Francisco State University. ÂThis is no doubt one of the most spectacular buildings that has been developed on any campus in America, says Miller. ÂThe meeting, reception and event space in the building is some of the finest I have ever seen. Whether a group is looking for culinary classics or cutting-edge contemporary cuisine, says Miller, Golden Eagle HospitalityÂs menus will be a perfect fit for just about any occasion. ÂGolden Eagle Hospitality has the capabilities to handle all types of meetings, conferences, banquets and even weddings right here on campus, he notes. The Golden Eagle, an award-winning three-story building comprising two adjoining structures equaling more than 100,000 square feet, occupies the site of the former Eagles Landing Cafeteria at Cal State L.A. The first level houses the food courtÂincluding Kikka Sushi, Rice Garden, Carl's Jr., and Johny's KitchenÂUniversity Club restaurant, food preparation area, retail store, and the first floor of the University Bookstore. TSK has extensive experience designing college and university work including student centers.
