Office for Students with Disabilities

Learning Outcome 1: Alternative Testing

As part of the alternative testing process, OSD students will increase their understanding of their rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act as measured by a pre- and post-survey.

Assessment Measures

Students who have received the accommodation of alternative testing will be given information at the beginning of each term with a link to complete the pre-survey. The information will focus on college student rights under the ADA. During finals week, the same students will receive the post-survey with the same information to assess how well the information was retained (i.e., increased understanding).

Assessment Data Collection Plan

Pre-survey data will be collected during each semester. Post-survey data will be collected at the end of finals week each semester. An internal database containing all students who have alternative testing accommodations will be used to distribute both the pre- and post-surveys.

Analysis of Results

The results will be analyzed by comparing data collected from the pre- and post-surveys for fall and spring individually, and then again by comparing the two data sets from both terms.

Use of Results

The results will be shared with OSD staff, the Leadership Team for the Student Life division, the Student Life Assessment Council, and via the OSD website. The findings will be used to assess how well students understand their rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

  • Student Life Domain: Social Justice
  • Institutional Strategic Priority: Student Success
  • Institutional Learning Outcome: Knowledge: Mastery of Content and Processes of Inquiry

Learning Outcome 2: Student Success Panel

Students who attend an OSD Student Success Panel will gain an understanding of how accommodations can contribute to academic success as measured by a pre- and post-questionnaire.

Assessment Measures

A pre- and post-questionnaire will be administered. The pre-questionnaire will be distributed to participants immediately before the student panel discussion, and the post-survey will be distributed immediately after. OSD students will attend a student panel consisting of current or recently graduated OSD students who will discuss their experiences using accommodations and how these contributed to their academic success.

Assessment Data Collection Plan

Pre-questionnaire data will be collected at the beginning of the student panel and the post-questionnaire data will be collected at the end of the panel. An internal database containing OSD students will be used to recruit both panelists and participants.
