Project Green Challenge (PGC) educates, empowers, and mobilizes high school, college, and graduate students on climate action, environmental and social justice, public health, and advocacy.
67 students participated in this program.
This powerful and diverse call to action features 30 days of eco-themed challenges that transform lives, shift mindsets, harness ideas, and equip students with skills, knowledge, resources and mentorship to lead change on campus and in communities. Through individual and collective action, systems thinking, behavior change, and informed consumption, PGC participants are challenged to envision and work toward a healthy, just, resilient future.
In October, daily themed challenges encouraged participants to complete actions, upload deliverables, and earn leaderboard points. These activities fostered student creativity, research skills, and ingenuity, with daily prizes for excellent work.
The program emphasized community engagement, focusing on environmental awareness and care. Participation helped students learn and challenge themselves to meet program goals, enhancing their creativity, research, and problem-solving skills.
This was the first year ASI promoted PGC and registered Cal State LA as a participating campus. We were encouraged by the 67 students who signed up, showing strong interest in environmental issues. Overall, 14,841 schools, 335,551 users, 50 states, and 169 countries participated in the 2023 Project Green Challenge, and ASI was proud to bring Cal State LA to the program.
As an annual program, ASI is interested in registering our campus again for the 2025 PGC and promoting it to students on campus. If successful, this may become an annual activity that adds to ASI’s commitment to sustainability education and protecting the natural environment. We will develop an assessment to understand the program's impact.
