Amira Ainis PHD, RPA
Coastal Archaeology Lab Director
Amira is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology who specializes in Environmental Archaeology of coastal and island settings. She completed her BA at Humboldt State University, her MA is from Cal State LA, and she received her PhD from the University of Oregon in 2019.
Amira’s research interests include diachronic adaptations to coastal and island ecosystems, marine historical ecology and paleoecology, ancient fisheries, cultural landscapes, and archaeoconchology (archaeological shell studies). She has several active research projects across the Baja California peninsula and her work is rooted in long-term binational partnerships and collaborations with fellow archaeologists and marine scientists on the other side of the arbitrary U.S./Mexico border.
