Chris Bachman, PhD PE
Mechanical Engineering Department Assistant Professor
Dr. Bachman teaches Introduction to Engineering and Technology, Introduction to Mechanical Design, Thermodynamics, and Capstone Senior Design. He directs the ECST Makerspace and also advises the Formula SAE team. His research interests include batteries, fuel cells, energy systems, and education.
Team Captain, System Integration Lead
Javi designed and manufactured the 2019 brake and throttle system. He also manufactured the kingpins and rear uprights. He was the winner of the 2019 MakerSpace Contest and is currently interning at Eaton as a Field Service Engineer. When he graduates, he would like to work in the aerospace or automotive industry as a prototype engineer.
Co-Captain, Rear Suspension Lead
Raymond designed and manufactured the 2020 Baja frame. He also manufactured rear suspension components and steering wheel stops for the 2019 competition. On his downtime he works on project cars and trucks, including customization of the engine and suspension. After graduating, he would like to work in the automotive or renewable energy industry.
Composite and Ergonomics Lead
Brian designed and manufactured the carbon fiber driver’s seat and body panels for the 2019 and 2020 vehicles. He has been Student Technician for the university's Hydrogen Research Facility since 2019. Upon graduation, Brian would like to work in the defense or renewable energy industry.
Front Suspension Lead
Aaron redesigned the steering geometry for the 2019 vehicle to aid in a 15th place finish in maneuverability. He has manufactured various components for the 2019 and vehicle and will integrate his experience in designing steering geometry into the front suspension. He would like to work in the automotive industry as a design or test engineer when he graduates.
Anthony designed and manufactured the brake rotors and helped assemble the 2020 frame. He plans to implement data acquisition for validation of the braking system for the 2021 vehicle. When he’s not in the lab, he produces music with local rappers and singers. When he graduates he would like to work for the automotive or motorsport industry.
Sergio is a Mechanical Engineering undergraduate and has been the drivetrain lead for two years. He reduced the size and weight of the gearbox and updated the CVT system. Sergio worked for an engineering firm for over 9 years as a Jr. Design Engineer. He has experience in 3D modeling, 3D printing, manufacturing, and electrical work. Sergio is also the cinematographer and video editor for the club's YouTube channel.
Jonathan manufactured the balljoint mount, spindle, and gathered data on front shocks for the 2019 season. He was previously on the Mt. San Antonio College Rocket Team, where he learned machining and the ability to apply in class knowledge to a tangible project. Once he graduates he would like to work in the automotive, aerospace, energy, or material science industries.
Darren helped manufacture the frame and designed the splash shield for the 2020 Baja car. He is currently in the design phase for the 2021 frame. After graduation, he would like to work in the automotive industry or as a manufacturing engineer for a major company in the music industry.
Ronald is an Electrical Engineering student. He researched and developed the 2019-2020 DAQ systems that provided the mechanical subsections with data such as forces on the suspension with strain gauges, temperature of the rotors with IR sensors, and forces entering the pedals with a load cell. After graduating, Ronald plans to work in the motorsport, aerospace or automotive industry.
Sales and Marketing Lead
Kimberly is a Mechanical Engineering student. She delivered an outstanding sales presentation for the 2020 Baja SAE competition, which involved creating a hypothetical company with the ability to manufacture, assemble and sell to a consumer. Her presentation ranked 3rd place overall for the event. She would like to work for Honda after graduation.
Outreach and Fundraising Lead
Lizette is a Computer Information Systems student. She raised over $1,000 during the 2020 academic year. For the 2021 year she will continue to maintain the team's website and coordinate fundraisers for the upcoming competition year. Once she graduates, she will like to own a CEO of her own business.
