Last summer's REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) program was a huge success, with a variety of activities for participants to engage in and learn from. Here are some highlights from the program:

Summer Highlights
Mount Lowe Road Hike
REU students explored the beautiful surroundings of Altadena with a hike led by both of the program directors. The hike allowed the participants to get to know each other and enjoy the outdoors.
Poster Presentation
REU participants presented their research findings at the end-of-summer poster event. Students shared their work with the larger research community and receive feedback from their peers.
Independent Research
During the summer, students worked on independent research projects guided by a mentor. These projects allowed students to learn about a specific topic and gain hands-on laboratory experience.
On-campus Housing
REU participants had the option to stay in on-campus housing during the program. This made it easy for participants to focus on their research and attend all of the scheduled events and activities.
Professional Development
Students attended weekly workshops focused on resume building, networking, dealing with imposter syndrome, and many others. These workshops helped students build skills useful in their future careers.
Graduate Research Panel
The program featured a panel of graduate students who shared their advice with REU students. Attendees learned about different career paths in research and could ask questions of the panelists.
