Description

Dr. Lan Duong, facuty, Media and Cultural Studies at UC Riverside, investigates how “Vietnam” has been represented in film by those in the West and in Vietnam. The talk argues for a trans-Vietnamese feminist mode of reading cinema and culture, one that takes into account how film travels across national borders and is produced at the intersections of history, economics and politics, and asks: how do classic and contemporary Vietnamese films reproduce ideologies about gender and sexuality?
