Dr. Alia Al-Saji, who is associate professor of philosophy at McGill University in Montreal, will explore and critically analyze the view that stereotyping of Muslims in Western settings is “cultural racism.”  Focusing especially on attitudes toward Muslim women, she will discuss the politics that frame such Western cultural debates and the processes that underlie cultural racism. Presented as part of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Initiative on Gender, Sexuality, and Feminisms in Middle Eastern Communities.
