Welcome to Cal State LA! We’re glad you’ve chosen to continue your education with us, and we are excited to help make your transition a smooth and positive experience!

Given the current health situation, plans and procedures are evolving with regard to summer orientation. Please check our website regularly for any updates.

Golden Eagle Orientation is a one-day program that will provide you with essential information to help you get to know your new campus and prepare you to begin classes. As a part of Orientation you will receive:

  • Group academic advising
  • An introduction to campus services and resources
  • A tour of campus
  • Assistance in registration for the upcoming class session
  • An opportunity to meet other new and returning students

Golden Eagle Orientation is offered for first-time freshmen, transfer students, and returning students; dates for orientation sessions are determined by your academic college. Participation in Orientation and Academic Advisement is required for all new incoming and returning undergraduate students. You will need to make a reservation in order to attend Orientation; walk-ins will not be accommodated.

If you are a freshman and are participating in the EOP Summer Bridge Program, you DO NOT need to attend Orientation. If you're not sure if you are in Summer Bridge, please contact your EOP counselor.

Cal State LA also offers an optional Freshman Overnight Orientation program. Learn more about it here!

GEO Online Pre-Orientation is a virtual program that will provide you with many of the basics about your new campus in the comfort of your own home (or wherever you prefer to access the internet)! You can complete the program at your own pace, and if you need to step away for a while, the system will remember your place and bring you back to that spot when you return.

We know how hard it can be to process ALL of the information you will receive during the Orientation day, so the Online Pre-Orientation is there to make it a little easier.

The program is available to all incoming students through your Student Portal, and is available to parents and guardians upon request. Online Pre-Orientation must be completed before you attend the In-Person session.

  • As an extra bonus, students who complete the Online Pre-Orientation will be entered for a chance to win a brand new Dell laptop, so be sure to finish the program as soon as possible!

As a new student at Cal State LA, it will be VERY IMPORTANT that you learn and adhere to all the various deadlines. The deadline to sign up for Golden Eagle Orientation for all incoming students is Monday, June 1, 2020. If you do not complete your Orientation reservation by this time (including paying the Orientation Fee), your admission to Cal State LA may be rescinded. If you have any questions about summer orientation, or if you have not received information via email regarding Orientation reservations, please be sure to contact our office before this deadline.

Information Sessions

Certain departments host Information Sessions, in addition to Golden Eagle Orientation, to share important news specific to different student populations. Please see below for possible information sessions that may pertain to you.

International Students: International Students are required to attend a separate information session, hosted by the International Office, concerning your transition to the United States and Cal State LA. For more information, please visit International Programs.

Veterans: The Veterans Resource Center offers an information session exclusively for military-connected Cal State LA students, including veterans and the dependents of veterans. To learn more, please contact the Veterans Resource Center.

Students with Disabilities: The Office for Students with Disabilities offers multiple information sessions during the summer to help you better understand the transition to Cal State LA from your previous institution. Please visit the OSD website for more information.

Graduate Students: The Office of Graduate Studies also offers orientation programs for incoming graduate students. For more information, visit New Graduate Student Orientation

Parents & Family Support Members

Parent and Family Support Orientation is offered for the parents/guardians and/or family support members of first-time freshmen students to help acquaint them with the college experience and how they can play a role in the success of their student. We invite one parent/guardian or family support member to accompany your student on specific Orientation dates. Please see the GEO-Freshmen tabs for a list of appropriate dates. Transfers students are also invited to bring one guest of their choosing to any Transfer Orientation date, but please be advised that guest seating is very limited, and fills quickly.

The fee for Golden Eagle Orientation is $75 for freshmen, transfer students, and returning students.

The fee for parents or family support members to attend Family Support Orientation is $46 per guest. Due to space limitations, we ask that students bring only one guest.

The fee for Freshman Overnight Orientation is $160.

All fees must be paid at the time of your reservation in order for your reservation to be considered complete.

Refunds for the Orientation Fee are ONLY available upon request. Students are only eligible to receive an Orientation Fee refund if you meet both of the following criteria:

  • You have not already attended Orientation
  • Your request for a refund is submitted and received before the deadline

Refund requests MUST be submitted in writing, via email. To submit a request, please complete the Refund Request Form. Be sure to include your first and last name, CIN, and scheduled Orientation date.

Refunds will be mailed by check to the address on file and can take 10 business days or more to process.

The refund request deadline is August 23, 2020 by 5 p.m. No refund requests will be accepted or processed after this time.

Overnight accommodations are available on campus for students attending Orientation and one parent/guardian only. Minors not attending Orientation are not permitted to stay in University Housing. To view campus rate information, visit in Housing and Residence Life Summer Programs
