The College of Health and Human Services is committed to educating and preparing human service professionals to become innovative practitioners and leaders. The College promotes the integration of teaching, research, policy, and public service in an interdisciplinary context. Knowledge, skill, and caring provide the foundation for educating a diverse workforce of the future who effectively serves multicultural urban communities. The College strives to be student-centered, faculty and staff focused, and community minded.
With more than 70 full-time and numerous part-time faculty members plus 26 staff members, the College serves approximately 6000 undergraduate and graduate majors in academic disciplines within its Departments and Schools.

- Dr. Walter Zelman takes Public Health students to Sacramento. Here they are with Assemblyman Gil Cedillo who grew up in Boyle Heights and represents the area of CSULA.
CSULA Chapter of Men in Nursing is inducted at the Research Day. Administrative Procedures 212 - "This committee is appointed by and advisory to the dean of each college on issues regarding the resource allocation request of the college. The committee must consist of five (5) members including a college administrator appointed by the dean to serve as chair, as well as representation from faculty, department chairs, and students."

Spotlight
An article by Dr. Valentine Villa (School of Social Work) recently published in a special edition of the Gerontologist is dedicated to the aging of the Baby Boom population. The research represents the first comprehensive analysis of the health of the Latino boom population. The article reports that Latino Baby Boomers are likely to experience health and economic inequities similar to their parents as they enter the ranks of the elderly population. Dean Yorker attends Pipeline to Careers in Public Health workshop at the Kennedy Krieger Institute at Johns Hopkins University. Applications for Junior or Senior CSULA students to attend a Summer long institute providing mentoring at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Johns Hopkins Medical Center will be available shortly.

Professor Christine Dy runs the Locomotor Training Lab in the School of Kinesiology and Nutritional Science, a division of the College of Health and Human Services at Cal StateLA Click here to see the KTLA-5 News Video! In the Lab, Kinesiology students gain hands-on experience working with individuals with spinal cord injury during step training exercise. The students learn how to provide therapy while spinal cord injured clients benefit from rehabilitation training. Click here to see more info!
Program Impaction (effective Fall 2011)
Program impaction means that the number of applications from fully eligible students to a designated major far exceeds the number of spaces available in that major. However, students can still be admitted to the major if they meet the supplementary admission criteria.
The following are impacted undergraduate programs/majors at Cal State L.A.:

- Nursing (for Transfers)
- Social Work
