Food Science and Technology undergraduates presented their research in an international conference.

CSULA Food Science and Technology undergraduate students, Monique Wilcots, Roden Cortez, Dorothy Wong, Melody Wong, and Samantha Ton under the mentorship of Dr. Sunil Mangalassary presented their research on “Effect of spice marinades on quality attributes of chicken breast” at the Institute of Food Technologist Annual international Expo and conference from June 25-28. This annual meeting was attended by more than 22,000 professionals from the industry, academia, and Government and there were 1,400 posters and 300 plus oral presentation sessions from 50 states and 80 countries. The CETL grant money was used for doing a part of this research and also for student travel.

Jeff Rothschild, a graduate student in Nutritional Science under the mentorship of Dr. Maria Omary, presented a poster on “Pasting properties of Roasted Quinoa” in the same conference and got selected to do an oral presentation in a special student session.

• Students and Faculty complete the Summer Internship in Public Health sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Kennedy Krieger Institute of Johns Hopkins University.

• Dr. Walter Zelman takes Public Health students to Sacramento. Here they are with Assemblyman Gil Cedillo who grew up in Boyle Heights and represents the area of CSULA.
• CSULA Chapter of Men in Nursing is inducted at the Research Day. Present are: Dr. Courtney Lyder - Dean of Nursing at UCLA and keynote speaker, Jane Hook- Faculty Sponsor, Javier Exebio- Past Immediate President of the CSULA Chapter of Men in Nursing , Xun (Edward) Wang - President of the CSULA Chapter of Men in Nursing, Dr. Cynthia Hughes - Director of the School of Nursing, and Beatrice Yorker- Dean of College of HHS.
