The College of Health and Human Services is committed to educating and preparing human service professionals to become innovative practitioners and leaders. The College promotes the integration of teaching, research, policy, and public service in an interdisciplinary context. Knowledge, skill, and caring provide the foundation for educating a diverse workforce of the future who effectively serves multicultural urban communities. The College strives to be student-centered, faculty and staff focused, and community minded.
With more than 70 full-time and numerous part-time faculty members plus 26 staff members, the College serves approximately 6000 undergraduate and graduate majors in academic disciplines within its Departments and Schools.

The School of Criminal Justice and Criminalistics will be hosting the 121st California Association of Criminalists Seminar, scheduled for May 20-24th at the Pasadena Hilton. For more information please Click HERE
Food Science and Technology undergraduates presented their research in an international conference.

CSULA Food Science and Technology undergraduate students, Monique Wilcots, Roden Cortez, Dorothy Wong, Melody Wong, and Samantha Ton under the mentorship of Dr. Sunil Mangalassary presented their research on “Effect of spice marinades on quality attributes of chicken breast” at the Institute of Food Technologist Annual international Expo and conference from June 25-28. This annual meeting was attended by more than 22,000 professionals from the industry, academia, and Government and there were 1,400 posters and 300 plus oral presentation sessions from 50 states and 80 countries. The CETL grant money was used for doing a part of this research and also for student travel.
Jeff Rothschild, a graduate student in Nutritional Science under the mentorship of Dr. Maria Omary, presented a poster on “Pasting properties of Roasted Quinoa” in the same conference and got selected to do an oral presentation in a special student session.
- Students and Faculty complete the Summer Internship in Public Health sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Kennedy Krieger Institute of Johns Hopkins University.


- Dr. Walter Zelman takes Public Health students to Sacramento. Here they are with Assemblyman Gil Cedillo who grew up in Boyle Heights and represents the area of CSULA.
- CSULA Chapter of Men in Nursing is inducted at the Research Day. Present are: Dr. Courtney Lyder - Dean of Nursing at UCLA and keynote speaker, Jane Hook- Faculty Sponsor, Javier Exebio- Past Immediate President of the CSULA Chapter of Men in Nursing , Xun (Edward) Wang - President of the CSULA Chapter of Men in Nursing, Dr. Cynthia Hughes - Director of the School of Nursing, and Beatrice Yorker- Dean of College of HHS.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY
National Undergraduate Summer Public Health Program (NUSPHP) funded by the CDC
CSULA is partnering with the University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities at USC/LA Children’s Hospital and the Kennedy Krieger Institute at Johns Hopkins University to offer paid Summer internships in Los Angeles which include an all expense paid week at KKI in Baltimore and the CDC in Atlanta.

An article by Dr. Valentine Villa (School of Social Work) recently published in a special edition of the Gerontologist is dedicated to the aging of the Baby Boom population. The research represents the first comprehensive analysis of the health of the Latino boom population. The article reports that Latino Baby Boomers are likely to experience health and economic inequities similar to their parents as they enter the ranks of the elderly population. Professor Christine Dy runs the Locomotor Training Lab in the School of Kinesiology and Nutritional Science, a division of the College of Health and Human Services at Cal StateLA Click here to see the KTLA-5 News Video! In the Lab, Kinesiology students gain hands-on experience working with individuals with spinal cord injury during step training exercise. The students learn how to provide therapy while spinal cord injured clients benefit from rehabilitation training. Click here to see more info!
Program Impaction (effective Fall Quarter 2012 for continuing matriculated students; effective Fall Quarter 2013 for new applicants to the University)
Program impaction means that the number of applications from fully eligible students to a designated major far exceeds the number of spaces available in that major. However, students can still be admitted to the major if they meet the supplementary admission criteria. The supplemental admission criteria for the designated majors follow below.
