| Three Cal State L.A. Students The fellowship recipients are Cal State L.A. civil engineering graduate students Joseph Rhyu (Los Angeles-90028 resident), Ronald Lin (Rosemead resident), and Willie G. Pangilinan (Los Angeles-90020 resident). All three students are also currently working in the field while pursuing their graduate studies. Rhyu, who received his B.S. from CSU Northridge, is currently at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works. Employed at the Port of Long Beach, Lin earned his B.S. from Yangon Institute of Technology, Burma. Pangilinan holds a B.S. from Holy Angel University, Philippines, and works at Advanced Applied Engineering, Inc., in Pasadena. The Nabih Youssef Graduate Structural Engineering Fellowship was recently established at Cal State L.A. through the generous contribution of CSULA alumnus Nabih Youssef to the Civil Engineering Department. Youssef, a structural engineer, is currently the principal structural engineer of Nabih Youssef and AssociatesÂone of the most prominent structural engineering firms in Los Angeles. Youssef has been a member of the Structural Engineers Association of Southern California since 1977, and has served as a member of the UniversityÂs Civil Engineering Department Industry Advisory Board since 1998. He was the recipient of Cal State L.A.Âs 2000-2001 College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology Distinguished Alumnus Award. The purpose of establishing this fellowship is to encourage civil engineering students to obtain their graduate education in structural/earthquake engineering at Cal State L.A., and to encourage civil engineering students to engages in research in earthquake-related areas while pursuing a graduate degree at Cal State L.A.
