Cal State L.A.'s Leslie Ford
LOS ANGELES -- Cal State L.A. junior Leslie Ford (Fort Worth, TX/Dunbar/Long Beach CC) won Saturday's 400 meter dash final at the annual Cal-Nevada State Meet at San Diego State, crossing the tape in a time of 47.43 seconds, exactly 0.50 seconds faster than his closest competitor, Aaron Vasquez of Fresno State.
Also on Saturday in the final day of the meet, CSULA women's sophomore Lynnae Samuels (La CaÃ±ada, CA/John Muir/Cal Poly SLO) took runner-up in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 14.04, just behind Nevada's Allison Sewell (13.95). Samuels also finished fourth at the meet in the 400 meter hurdles in a season-best time of 1:00.32, which moves her from fourth to third in the NCAA Division II rankings. Cal State Northridge's Francis Santin won the 400 hurdles in a time of 58.37.
Golden Eagle women's distance All-American Annmarie Housen (New York, NY/George Washington/Pasadena CC) took fourth this afternoon in the 5,000 meter run in a time of 17:56.02. Nevada's Erin Seward won the event in 17:40.43. Also on Saturday, senior women's javelin All-American Maegan Bergeson (Oceanside, CA/Rancho Buena Vista) took fifth place in the javelin with an NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 137' 11", placing her 10th in NCAA Division II this year. UNLV's Casey Lektorich won the women's javelin with a throw of 153' 2".
Other CSULA results from the final day of the meet were an eighth place finish for men's junior David Harrison (Las Vegas, NV/Mojave/Long Beach CC) in the long jump (20' 10 1/2") and a 21st place finish for Beatriz Reyes (El Monte, CA/El Monte/Rio Hondo JC) in the 5,000 meter run (19:35.83). As a team, Cal State L.A. finished 13th in the women's competition with 25 points. Host San Diego State won the meet with 159 points. CSULA finished second among all non-Division I women's teams, behind only conference-rival Cal State Dominguez Hills (ninth place, 33 points). On the men's side, Cal State L.A. took 14th place overall with 18 points. UCLA won the men's meet with 214 points.
The Golden Eagles will split up into three meets next weekend, competing at Azusa Pacific's California Invitational, the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational and the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays.
