The 19th Annual David L. Kubal Memorial Lecture Series at California State University, Los Angeles will present "All of my Soul is There: Translation and the Rhetoric of English Poetry" by Dick Davis, professor of Persian and Middle Eastern Languages at Ohio State University. Dr. Davis is highly regarded for his study of medieval Persian poetry entitled Epic and Sedition. Professor Davis is also a distinguished poet whose most recent collections are Touchwood and Just a Small One. When:

Dick Davis is the author of 18 books of original poetry, translations and literary criticism. In addition to his department course work, Davis teaches poetics, literary history and translation for comparative studies and English. He has received awards from the Arts Council of Great Britain and the British Institute of Persian Studies, has received a Fulbright grant and a Guggenheim Fellowship, and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. The lecture series, honoring the late David L. Kubal, a member of the Cal State L.A. English Department faculty from 1968 to 1981, brings distinguished literary critics to the campus. Past lecturers have included noted scholar Mark Turner, prominent literary theorist J. Hillis Miller, culture critic Geoffrey Hartman of Yale University, noted Renaissance scholar Don Wayne, and literary editor Adolf Wood of Times Literary Supplement. Info:
