The Cal State LA Food Pantry gives currently enrolled students access to fresh produce, and perishable and nonperishable foods. This weekly service is free for all Cal State LA students and the pantry is open three times a week for four-hour shifts.
The Food Pantry served 1,005 unique students in the last academic year.
This program promotes access to food, including fresh produce, which can improve the overall well-being of students.
Our student volunteers and staff have the opportunity to serve their college community and gain experience on providing trauma-informed services to a diverse student body.
In the 2022-23 academic year, the majority of Cal State LA students who accessed the pantry were graduate students and seniors. First-year students used the pantry less than any other classification. The ethnic group that accessed the pantry the most identified as Asian following Hispanic/Latinx students.
Throughout the next academic year, since mostly Asian students and graduate students are accessing the pantry, the team looks forward to gathering feedback about the food items these groups of students prefer to have access at the pantry.
