We Are LA: Community Weekend celebrates two days of connection, culture, community, and Golden Eagle pride – featuring a celebratory film screening honoring a Cal State LA alum and local LA legend, home soccer match-ups under the lights, and a Sunday roll/walk/ride at CicLAvia in the heart of Los Angeles.
The Community Festival, complete with a vibrant on-campus night market and festive activities, has been rescheduled to spring 2026.

An Evening with Edward James Olmos: Prism Award, Conversation, and Film Screening

Join us for a special screening of The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez, starring Cal State LA alumnus Edward James Olmos. This groundbreaking film tells the story of resilience and justice in the Mexican-American experience and remains a milestone in Chicanx storytelling.
The evening will begin with a special award presentation honoring Edward James Olmos with the Prism Award, followed by a conversation with Mr. Olmos and the Dean of the College of Arts & Letters reflecting on his impactful career, the influence of Cal State LA, and the power of community storytelling—culminating in a screening of The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez.
This event is free and open to the public. However, registration is required. Please confirm your attendance by 5 p.m. on Monday, October 6, 2025, by clicking on the Registration button below. All registered guests must pick up their complimentary tickets at the Will Call table at The Luckman Theatre on the day of the event. Cal State LA is adopting an intersection at CicLAvia (4th/St. Louis), and we need volunteers to help keep the event safe, fun, and welcoming!
Volunteers receive a CicLAvia t-shirt, training, and the opportunity to staff a Cal State LA outreach booth at the intersection. Confirm that you are volunteering by Wednesday, September 24, 2025.
