Position:

Graduate Assistant for course(s) in United States history.

Starting Date:

On-going. Position will be filled as needed for each academic semester.

Minimum Qualifications:

Enrollment in the M.A. program in History or a compatible M.A. program such as Pan African Studies, Latin American Studies, Chicano Studies, English, Political Science, Sociology, or others. The applicant should show evidence of a college-level lower division survey of United States history and upper division course work in United States history.  Good library research, writing, and people/social skills as well as an ability to mentor undergraduate students are essential.  Graduate Assistants must be registered in a CSU graduate degree program and must be enrolled in courses towards the completion of that graduate degree during the appointment period. Applicants should have the ability to relate well to others within the academic environment, and demonstrate ability and/or interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment.

Duties:

Under the general supervision of the faculty member, the Graduate Assistant will provide assistance in the instruction of students by conducting small discussion groups related to large-lecture course activities, may assist in handling equipment, maintaining office hours to provide direct individual contact between student and graduate assistant, clarifying course material or course content for student.  The Assistant will perform other tasks such as grading examinations, recording grades, etc.; assisting faculty with research and preparation of course materials; participating in the evaluation of students’ work; and fulfilling related tasks.

Salary:

Current Graduate Assistant rate for an average of five to ten hours per week.
