Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate Assistants must be first-year graduate students registered in the CLS graduate degree program and must be enrolled in courses towards the completion of that graduate degree during the appointment period. Applicants should have the ability to relate well to others within the academic environment, and demonstrate ability and/or interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment.
Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the University.
Preferred Qualifications:
The applicant should be a full-time student in the Department of Chicana(o) and Latina(o) Studies and not be employed as a full-time professional (i.e., teacher, social worker). Applicants should demonstrate interests in developing research and/or teaching skills, an ability to contribute to the field of Chicana (o) Studies, and a desire to be mentored by faculty.
Hiring Criteria:
The successful applicant should have a compatible schedule as well as ability to work virtually on all agreed upon projects.
Duties:
Under the general supervision and mentorship of a faculty member, the Graduate Assistants will provide assistance in teaching, research, and/or departmental projects. For example, Graduate Assistants providing assistance with teaching might assist with handling CANVAS assignments, evaluating student work, and clarifying course material or course content for students. Graduate Assistants working with departmental projects might be assigned to gathering content, creating, and editing an electronic departmental newsletter. Generally, GAs will perform clerical, bibliographical, or other routine tasks, assist faculty with research and teaching; and support with other related tasks.
Salary:
Current Graduate Assistant rate.
Graduate Assistants will work 8 hours per week for 15 weeks each semester for a total of 120 hours per semester.
