Position:

Teaching Associate in Acting and Vocal Technique

Starting Date:

On-going. Positions will be filled as needed each semester.

Minimum Qualifications:

Degree-seeking graduate student in the Departments compatible with Theatre and Television Film & Media Studies. Teaching Associates must be currently enrolled or admitted to a Cal State LA graduate degree program. Applicants should possess strong oral and written communication skills, have the ability to perform well within an academic environment, have the potential for excellent teaching, and demonstrate an interest in working in a multicultural and diverse environment.

Candidates must meet the following specific requirements:

1) Must possess a bachelor's degree.

2) Must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA in their graduate program.

3) Must complete an orientation program in the week prior to the first teaching assignment.

4) Must participate in the training workshops conducted by the Supervising Faculty.

5) Must be able to work effectively and collegially with other TAs, Supervising Faculty, and the Chair of the Department.

6) Must have successfully completed TVFT 5151 Teacher Training Seminar prior to appointment or demonstrate prior teaching experience equivalency as determined by the Department

Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the University.

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent evaluation by the TVFT 5150 Teaching Training Seminar instructor. The ability to instruct and evaluate students in lower division level acting and voice production courses in the Theatre B.A. and/or General Education (including, but not limited to: TA 1400, TA 1410, TA 1420, TA 2430)

Hiring Criteria:

Students will be selected as Teaching Associates based on the quality of their academic performance, their potential for teaching, and their demonstrated ability or potential to work effectively and collegially with students, staff, and faculty. All applications will be reviewed by the supervising faculty, the Director of the MFA in TVFT and Department Chair. All qualified applications will be ranked. Numerical rankings and openings available will determine hiring offer.

Duties:

Teaching Associates are expected to instruct and evaluate student work in their assigned classes and fulfill the stated goals and requirements of the courses to which they are assigned, to hold office hours, and to participate in mid-term and end-of-term course and program assessment activities. In addition, Teaching Associates are expected to collaborate in a workshop environment to create common course syllabi and instructional materials.

Salary:

Current Teaching Associate - Academic Year range: $2,943 - $6,891

Initial salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
