Teaching Associate-Spanish

Minimum Qualifications:
Degree-seeking graduate student in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures/Spanish.
Teaching Associates must be currently enrolled in or admitted to a CSULA graduate degree program. The successful applicant will work effectively, respectfully, and collaboratively in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings.
The applicant must be a degree-seeking graduate student in the M.A. in Spanish program and must be enrolled in courses towards the completion of that graduate degree during the appointment period.
1) Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish.
2) Spanish BA with a 3.5 G.P.A. or above
3) Good academic standing at CSULA (3.0 GPA in graduate courses)
4) Commitment to complete a TA orientation workshop during the first weeks of employment. The Spanish program cannot guarantee the workshop will be offered every semester.
Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the University.
Preferred Qualifications:
Applicants should have the ability to relate well to others within the academic environment, and demonstrate ability and/or interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment.
Hiring Criteria:
The successful applicant should be an effective communicator, native or near-native speaker of Spanish, possess basic technology competencies, have a compatible schedule with course to be taught, and a minimum G.P.A. of 3.5 in a Spanish B.A. and 3.0 in Spanish M.A.
Duties:
Successful candidates will teach Elementary Spanish and hold office hours accordingly.
Salary:
Current Teaching Assistant Academic Year range, $2,943-$6,891.
Base salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Time base is .5 or less (20 hours).

*Two of the three recommendation letters must be written by faculty with whom application took either fourth-year college of graduate Spanish courses. Applicants who have taught Spanish in a high school may use letters from supervisors.
